The color green, the number four, the word "retirement" -- all of these things have become nearly synonymous with the name Brett Favre.

Favre, who spent the majority of his 20-year NFL career with the Green Bay Packers and the entirety of it wearing No. 4, will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame in August. However, Favre's Hall of Fame career began way before he ever stepped foot onto Lambeau Field.

After playing three years of high school football for his father, Brett Favre moved on to the University of Southern Mississippi. Originally, the school -- the only one to offer him a scholarship -- wanted Favre to play defensive back. Favre (thankfully) insisted on playing quarterback, which he went on to do for all four years. He left Southern Miss with a teaching degree and entered the 1991 NFL Draft.

The Atlanta Falcons took Favre with the 33rd pick in the second round of the draft. The Falcons' coach at the time, Jerry Glanville, did not approve of the choice, and at first it seemed like he was right -- Favre only attempted four passes while with Atlanta, with two interceptions and no completions.

The Green Bay Packers traded a first-round draft pick for Favre after that season, and the rest -- including one Super Bowl championship, 11 Pro Bowl appearances, over 6,000 pass completions and at least two separate retirement announcements -- is history.
