A cartoonist released a recreation of the photo, illustrating the doll with a tear in its eye, holding the victim's hand.

Reports from the ground say many children have been admitted to the hospital. The streets were filled with families to watch fireworks for Bastille Day before the truck drove over a mile through the crowd.

Two Americans have been listed among those killed.

Since the devastating November attacks on Paris, the entirety of France has been on lockdown. The president previously spoke of plans to lift the lockdown, but that could now change.

Experts are saying the area has been the site of extremist activity, but the identity of the attacker remains unclear.

Local media is reporting the driver may have been a young local from Tunisia. He was shot dead by police.
