Blink 182 knocks Drake off Billboard 200 albums chart No. 1

Blink-182 takes over as the top musical act in the United States, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated July 23).

The Artist 100 measures artist activity across Billboard's most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Top Album Sales and the Social 50. The Artist 100 blends data measuring album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

Blink-182 Bumps Drake From No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart

Blink-182 vaults in atop the Artist 100 with 94 percent of its chart points from album sales, as its first LP in five years, California, arrives at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (with 186,000 equivalent album units earned, according to Nielsen Music), as well as the Top Album Sales, Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts (172,000 copies sold).

Notably, Blink-182 is the first rock act to top the Artist 100 (which began in July 2014) in nearly three months, since The Lumineers leapt in at No. 1 on the April 30 chart. Only one other rock-based act has led the Artist 100 in 2016: David Bowie posthumously debuted atop the Jan. 30 ranking, following his death on Jan. 10.

Drake Ties His Longest Hot 100 Reign With Ninth Week at No. 1 for 'One Dance'

Blink-182 bumps Drake from the top of the Artist 100 (1-2) after 15 (nonconsecutive) weeks at No. 1, the most among solo males; Justin Bieber is second among males with 11 weeks at No. 1, while, among all acts, only Taylor Swift has led longer than Drake: 31 weeks. As previously reported, Drake's "One Dance" (featuring WizKid and Kyla) spends a ninth week at No. 1 on the Hot 100. On the Billboard 200, as Blink-182's California roars in at No. 1, Drake's Viewsdips to No. 2 after nine weeks on top.

Rounding out the Artist 100's top five, twenty one pilots descend to No. 3 from their No. 2 peak; Rihanna drops 3-4; and Bieber holds at No. 5.
