Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump has, according to Politico, a "chief Republican nemesis in the Senate," and his name is Ben Sasse.

And, as anyone who goes toe-to-toe with Trump must be able to do, Sasse knows how to bring the put-downs – a skill he and his office demonstrated in response to a query about whether the freshman lawmaker plans to attend the upcoming Republican National Convention.

"Sen. Sasse will not be attending the convention and will instead take his kids to watch some dumpster fires across the state, all of which enjoy more popularity than the current front-runners," the Nebraska senator's spokesman said, according to The Hill.

Trump reportedly had an at-times tense meeting with Republican senators Thursday, during which he told Sasse – who has pledged not to vote for either Trump or presumed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton – he "must want Hillary."

Politico reports that Sasse was one of the first to leave the meeting.

A spokesman later said Trump and the senator had a "gracious exchange," though Sasse did not have an opportunity to respond to Trump's "Hillary" comment.

Mr. Sasse continues to believe that our country is in a bad place and, with these two candidates, this election remains a dumpster fire," the spokesman said. "Nothing has changed."
