Details about the long-awaited, just-announced ninth season of Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasmare starting to trickle in — and it's sounding pret-ty, pret-ty good. Mandel notes that it was David, 68, who approached the producers about finally getting around to season nine — the eighth aired in 2011 — but laughs off suggestions that it was David's recent success impersonating Bernie Sanders on SNL that convinced the Seinfeld co-creator it was time to return to TV. According to Mandel, David simply needed time to gather fresh material: "The fact that he'd been doing SNL and the Broadway show [Fish in the Dark] — that just creates new situations where he gets ideas."
