If you're looking to sell your home soon, this may be worth the read.

According to a new Zillow study, there's a new and inexpensive way to upgrade and boost the value of your home that you've probably never thought about: painting your kitchen. That's right, slapping a fresh coat of paint on your kitchen walls can raise your home's property value by thousands of dollars.

However, not any type of paint will work for the upgrade. The study points out that painting the area a color such as yellow will command an average of $1,360 more than homes with white kitchens. Other colors that boost value include "warm, earthy tones" such as sage green or dove gray. What's more, the paint trick can also help in the dining room. Zillow discovered that dining rooms painted "mauve, eggplant or lavender" are found in homes that are worth around $1,100 more than their less colorful counterparts.

Zillow's chief economist, Svenja Gudell, says, "Warm neutrals like yellow or light gray are stylish and clean," implying that they give off the impressions that the seller has "an eye for design that may translate to other areas within the house."
