Have you ever wondered why you order ginger ale while on a plane but not when on land?
Some may do it because the champagne color makes them feel fancy while they're 33,000 feet in the air without having to pay for the alcohol. Others do it because the "real ginger" in the drink helps with tummy troubles stemming from anxiety or motion sickness while up so high.
That is probably not the reason though. If you look at the back of a can of Canada Dry you will see there is absolutely no ginger in the ingredients list. So why pick ginger ale?
Doctors say that in those kinds of instances, it's all about the power of suggestion.
When you were young and feeling queasy, most parents suggested you drink ginger ale to help soothe that sick feeling because it was the closest thing to chewing on ginger root, but it is really a placebo effect and all the sugar and the carbonation in the drink are probably what make you feel better.
So if it makes you feel better, drink up, but remember, it's all in your head, not your stomach.
