A Hazmet crew is at the scene cleaning up the five gallons of lithium fluoride that spilled at the plant.

Lithium fluoride is used within the ventilation system of many industrial buildings and is not used in any candy products.

When fire officials arrived, the candy factory has already been evacuated.

Seventeen employees complained of respiratory issues. Six refused treatment. Eleven employees were taken to area hospitals. A hospital official said someone also got themselves to a hospital for treatment.

All the employees are expected to make a full recovery.

The situation was secured at 4 a.m. and employees were allowed back inside.
