The Weird Reason Bridesmaids All Dress Alike

Traditions can become so instilled in society that people stop questioning where they came from in the first place.

Why do we bring a tree inside and decorate it on Christmas? Why do we give cards and candy on Valentine's Day? Why are bridesmaids always wearing the same exact dress?

Well, fortunately, there's answer for that last one -- and it isn't because your best friend enjoys making you spend a fortune on a dress that fits you all wrong.

It dates back to Ancient Rome. According to Mental Floss, back then, even the bride would wear the same dress as her bridesmaids to camouflage her.

The idea was that any suitors or evil spirits wouldn't know whom to attack if they saw a group of people dressed exactly the same.

So, it isn't the evil bride who is causing you to wear that hideous dress, it's the spirits.
