When a severely injured great horned owl arrived at the Wild at Heart Rescue Center in Mississippi, she was in bad shape, to say the least.

Given the name GiGi by her rescuers, the injured bird was brought in with severe trauma to the head due to what they could only assume was an accident with a moving vehicle.

Luckily for her, the facility had a staff member who specialized in large birds, Doug Pojeky, who made it his mission to nurse the wounded soldier back to health.

According to the Dodo, the rescue's founder expanded on Dojeky's relationship with the animals at the center, saying, "In all my years of working with birds of prey, I have never seen someone with such a bond with these magnificent birds," Dubuisson explained."

Under his watch, GiGi made incredible progress -- enough so that he left to visit family, she was definitely aware of his absence.

Upon his arrival back at the rescue center, GiGi shocked everyone by putting her wings around him, greeting him with the warmest embrace possible.

The rescue's founder spoke on their warm reunion, saying, "She threw both wings around him and gave him an owl hug. [...] Then I walk around to see what her face looks like and this is what I see. Pure contentment."
