Mom of Teen Who Jumped Out of Window After Eating Pot Brownie Gets Jail Time

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- A woman convicted of a misdemeanor drug charge after her teenage son consumed a marijuana brownie and jumped out of a third-story window last year will serve 30 days in jail, the Larimer County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.

Authorities said Julieana Jablonski's son, Austin Essig, obtained an edible marijuana brownie from his roommate in April 2015. Moments after consumption, Essig hurled himself from a third-story window.

Jablonski had originally given the edible to her son's roommate. Investigators revealed the roommate said Jablonski told him to lie about how he had gotten the edible.

Jablonski, 38, was convicted by a jury last month on a misdemeanor drug charge of providing marijuana to someone younger than 21, but she was found not guilty of a felony charge of tampering with a witness.

She will serve 30 consecutive days in jail, a judge decided Wednesday. Her sentence includes 100 hours of useful public service and two years probation, during which she can't possess or use alcohol or controlled substances.

Jablonski will also undergo a substance abuse and mental health evaluation.
