Anne Hathaway Discusses Her Post-Baby Confidence

Anne Hathaway is a new mom; her son Jonathan was born only eight weeks ago. But the actress is back in the spotlight this week, promoting her new movie, Alice Through the Looking Glass. And when she appeared on Tuesday's Ellen DeGeneres Show, Hathaway recounted a recent less-than-flattering experience she had at the gym during one of her post-baby workouts.

"Being a mom has changed me in a couple ways," said Hathaway. "I actually, not based on this moment, but other moments feel a lot more confident."

She said she works out at a West Hollywood gym with "people who have too many muscles to be in The Avengers." The actress said she usually feels intimidated but now she walks in and is like, "Yeah I work out with 5- pound weights, but I pushed a baby out of my body, I feel good right now. So I don't care what I look like, I feel great."

Hathaway said she saw a man who looked like "Thor's trainer" staring at her and after talking to him and thinking he was hitting on her, he explained that he was a trainer and wondered if she wanted some pointers.

"I decide that I'm going to let it drop that I'm a new mom," said Hathaway. "And I'm like, 'You know, I have worked out here for a long time, but I've been gone because I just had a baby seven weeks ago.' And I'm expecting him to say the thing that you say when someone says that you've had a baby."

DeGeneres jumps in and says it's like what she had said to Hathaway earlier, "You look great."

"Doesn't matter if it's true," said Hathaway. "If somebody says, 'I had a baby 13 years ago,' you say, 'You look great.' That is what you do. That is the etiquette. So I say to this guy, 'I had a baby seven weeks ago.' And he goes, 'Oh, trying to lose the baby weight?' "

Hathaway said she told him she was just trying to regain her strength and that after he walked away, she "cried a little bit."
