What's in a name? Would an activewear empire by any other moniker be as successful? We may never know, but as it turns out, Nike was almost called something very different.

In a new interview with CBS News, Nike's co-founder Phil Knight revealed his original idea for the company: Dimension Six. "You'd have a hard time fitting that on a heel tab," Knight joked. When asked why he was partial to Dimension Six, Knight explained: "Well, there was a fifth dimension right? So we wanted it to be an extra dimension."

But alas, as he recounted to CBS News, nobody could get on board with that name. "Mercifully, an employee proposed another name: Nike, the Greek goddess of victory," the article explains. Et voilà: a billion-dollar name was born.
