Freedom Looks Good on Former 50-Year Circus Elephant

(Buzz60) -- After spending over 50 years performing difficult stunts in the circus, Rhea the elephant has finally been rescued and freedom looks good on her.

Workers at Wildlife S.O.S., a non-profit charity in India, report Rhea was most likely taken from her family at a young age and forced to perform in the circus.

The rescue team was all smiles when they were finally able to rescue Rhea from the chains that the circus kept her in.

In a blog post, Wildlife S.O.S. writes "Her feet are in atrocious conditions, with deep painful cracks running through her swollen soles."

Perhaps most soul-crushing of all was when Rhea's two "sister" elephants were rescued five months ago because they had proper paperwork while Rhea didn't.

Thankfully, the rescue group was able to get all of Rhea's documents in order.

Rhea and her rescue team enjoyed the long road to freedom as they drove to an elephant sanctuary over 1,300 miles away so that she could be reunited with her sisters again.

Freedom awaits!

Along the way Rhea had a ton of fresh fruits to eat, took plenty of bathroom breaks, and was able to stretch her legs often.

However, she certainly seemed happiest sprawled out on the ground taking a nap.

She also enjoyed plenty of shade from a makeshift thatch roof of coconut leaves to keep her cool.

It's easy to see that once the chains came off, Rhea turned into a new elephant.
