Lady Melinda Rose Woodward, who was married to star singer Sir Tom Jones for 59 years, died Sunday morning at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after a 'short but fierce' battle with cancer.

A statement on the singer's website said: 'Surrounded by her husband and loved ones, she passed away peacefully.'

Jones had canceled a series of shows in Japan, Thailand, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates due to 'serious illness in his immediate family.'

The Welsh crooner married Lady Woodward, known as Linda, when they were just 16 years old. That same year they had a son, Mark, who is also Jones' manager. Jones revealed in his autobiography that the couple had wanted more children, but a miscarriage left her infertile.

The pair had a loving but often troubled relationship. Jones said he had 'never had that feeling for anyone else ... I don't think you can fall in love more than once,' but also admitted to numerous affairs.
