What to serve at your Spring party by Fashionable Hostess

For day two of the "How to Throw the Perfect Spring Party" series with Lauren of You & Lu, I am sharing two delicious Spring Party recipes, a Grapefruit Rosemary Punch as well as two skewers appetizers. Equally as pretty as they are delicious, guests will be thrilled by the light fare!

Come Spring time I love a sweet cocktail so when I came across this Grapefruit Rosemary Punch, I couldn't wait to give it a try. It may have been the adorable peachy color that drew me in, or the fact that you could use grapefruit as garnish, or the fact that I knew the color would look fab in a glass Drink Dispenser, but all of these reasons make it all the more perfect. I made sure to add extra garnish like fresh grapefruit slices and stalks of rosemary to sprinkle on top of each cocktail as well. Served in these footed crystal Villeroy & Boch glasses, they look all dressed up and ready to serve guests! To whip up the recipe at home I have included the recipe below which was inspired by this recipe.

Ingredients: {Makes 2 servings}

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • A handful of peeled grapefruit (~1 tablespoon)
  • 2 sprigs of rosemary
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 3-4 ice cubes
  • 1 cup sparkling water

Directions:

For simple rosemary syrup : In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and reduce to a simmer. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes or until syrup reduces to about 1/2 cup. Remove from heat and stir in the rosemary. Let steep in syrup for at least 20 minutes, or until cool. Strain syrup through a fine mesh strainer to remove rosemary leaves. Store in an airtight container refrigerated for up to a week.

For sparkling grapefruit rosemary cocktail:

In a tall glass, add the grapefruit and rosemary sprig. Muddle gently to break up grapefruit. Add the vodka, grapefruit juice, ice and 2 oz of simple rosemary syrup to the glass. Top off with sparkling water and stir. Add more simple rosemary syrup to taste. Enjoy!

For Spring time appetizers, I love these light skewers – a mix of savory and sweet, they appeal to a wide audience while still looking perfectly delicate. And who doesn't love watermelon in warm weather? My recommendation is to always ensure the fruits and meat are chopped into bite-sizes prior to assembling so guest can enjoy without much mess! For one skewer I arranged prosciutto, feta balls, and melon, then on the second skewer I started with mint and then alternated watermelon and feta cubes. Arranged on a gorgeous cake stand {and maybe a bowl of mint leaves for added color}, they look perfectly decadent without too much fuss. Serve alongside small dessert or appetizer plates.
