A woman is speaking out after her baby became seriously ill after she turned down a vaccine.

The mother, Cormit Avital, warns other parents about the consequences of rejecting a vaccine and how it led to her newborn contracting whooping cough in a video shared by her local health authority.

In the video Avital explains how she caught whooping cough before giving birth to her daughter Eva and how she passed it to her.

According to Avital, Eva's cough "became pretty scary, horror movie, coughing to the point of going blue, flopping in my hands."

"If I could turn the clock back, I'd definitely take 10 of those vaccinations 'cause there is nothing more painful than watching your little, tiny [baby] and they can't breathe in your hands," she said.

Dr. Buynder, a representation from Gold Coast Health, told the BBC that Eva's condition was improving and she would likely be released from the hospital in the coming weeks.

"There's always a feeling of pregnancy being this special state and you don't want to put anything into your body, but what's really bad for your baby is to get whooping cough or influenza", Dr. Buynder said.
