Ben Affleck and Matt Damon bring series 'The Runner' to go90

Nearly two decades after Ben Affleck and Matt Damon pitched the concept of a reality series competition called "The Runner," Verizon's go90 video platform is picking up the series.

The competition, which has a top prize of $1 million, will follow one person called "The Runner" as they attempted to make their way across the United States going completely unnoticed over a 30-day period. Throughout their journey, they are required to follow clues leading to their itinerary and check in at required checkpoints. While the one contestant is "running," they'll be followed by eight two-person teams called "Chasers," who will track the "Runner" via mobile devices that also get clues. They'll try and catch the "Runner" before they reach the next checkpoint.

If you want to play along at home, you can too via the go90 app. Users can help provide clues to catch the runner in exchange for cash rewards.

Affleck and Damon will work on this project with their partners on Project Greenlight, Adaptive Studios' Marc Joubert and Perrin Chiles, and top unscripted producer Craig Piligian of Pilgrim Media Group, a Lionsgate company. All five executive produce the series, which is slated for a launch this summer.

It's been a long road of running for both Affleck and Damon on this series. They first sold the idea to ABC in 2000, but the project was put on ice over security concerns after 9/11. It was revived in 2006 by Yahoo alongside reality producer Mark Burnett but they project never got off the ground.

go90 taking on the series is the ultimate light at the end of the tunnel for the Oscar-winning pair. Casting is currently underway for the series.
