Atlas, the continental giant rabbit, was up for adoption at the Glasgow's Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Scotland after his previous owners could not keep him any longer.

Now, the large cottontail has new owners.

After receiving hundreds of applicants, Jen Hislop, a 43-year-old financial fraud investigator from North Ayrshire was selected and given the rabbit over the weekend.

In a press statement from the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Hislop said: "I burst into tears when I got the phone call saying I had been chosen to rehome Atlas and I cried again when I collected him. Animals are just pets to some people but my rabbits are family members."

Hislop has changed his name from Atlas to "Atilla the Bun Binky Master Jazz Paws, but I think we'll call him Atty for short!"

She has a giant rabbit now named Coconut and has had two giant rabbits in the past. Hislop is so happy to have Atty, she has given him his own stroller so her daughter can take the new pet around town.

Anna O'Donnell, manager of the Scottish SPCA's rescue centre in Glasgow, said, "We were absolutely overwhelmed by the response to our rehoming appeal for Atlas and we had hundreds of calls and emails from people all over the world, including America, Canada and France. It was great there was so much interest in Atlas but we decided to find him a home here in Scotland to avoid a long journey as rabbits are very susceptible to stress."
