Starting Tuesday, March 1, Subway will begin selling antibiotic-free subs with all white meat chicken and no artificial flavors or colors, according to CNBC. The fast-food chain vowed last October to transition to serving antibiotic-free protein across all of its 27,000+ U.S. restaurants in 2016, and to be completely antibiotic-free by 2025.

The brand expects the transition to serving chicken raised without antibiotics to be completed by the end of this year, turkey in the next 2-3 years, and pork and beef in the next 10 years.

"Today's consumer is ever more mindful of what they are eating, and we've been making changes to address what they are looking for," said Dennis Clabby, executive vice president of Subway's Independent Purchasing Cooperative (IPC). He continued to explain that Subway's transition to antibiotic-free beef will take more time as a result of the limited supply today.

The menu addition beginning March 1st will be the brand's first step in fulfilling this pledge.
