Mother Convicted of Setting Daughter on Fire Sentenced

SACRAMENTO (KTXL) -– The woman convicted of setting her 7-year-old daughter on fire was sentenced to 10 years to life in prison Thursday.

On April 4, 2015, prosecutors say Porche Wright doused gasoline on her daughter and set her on fire because she was upset with her.

Wright then placed her in the tub to extinguish the flames, apparently so hot that they left burn marks in the tub. When Wright's boyfriend returned home that morning, investigators say he found the girl severely burned and later called 911 once he left, after Wright said not to tell anyone.

When medics arrived, they found the girl standing in the hallway with serious burns and an overwhelming smell of gasoline throughout the home.

The girl was transported to the hospital, where she underwent multiple surgeries. She suffered from second and third-degree burns to over a third of her body.

In January, Wright pleaded no contest to attempted murder and admitted to personally inflicting great bodily injury.
