Best and worst dressed at the 2016 Oscars
BEST: Jennifer Lawrence donned a gorgeous nude gown with a layered black lace overlay. Minimal accessories, a chic straight bob and her signature smile completed the stunning look. (Photo by Dan Steinberg/Invision/AP)
WORST: Kerry Washington missed the mark in a black and white gown with a leather bodice and bizarre belt detail, although we love the cheeky reference to her "Scandal" gladiators!  (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)
BEST: No surprise here -- Charlize Theron nailed it again in a gorgeous red mermaid gown with a sleek train, sexy straps and plunging neckline that was accented by a long, drop diamond necklace. (Photo by Todd Williamson/Getty Images)
WORST: "Room" star Brie Larson looked just about ready for the homecoming dance in a ruffled, cobalt gown with a thick, embellished accent belt that erred on the side of cheesy. (Photo by Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic)
BEST: Hello, gorgeous! Alicia Vikander totally stunned in a gorgeous, pale yellow Louis Vuitton creation with silver embellishments and a glamorous, bubble hem. A simple partial updo and drop earrings completed her flawless look.  (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)
WORST: Mindy Kaling went with a dramatic off-the-shoulder black gown with a billowing blue bow in the back, but it failed to wow. (Photo by Jason Merritt/Getty Images)

BEST: "Brooklyn" star Saoirse Ronan wowed in a sleek sequined Calvin Klein gown with a sexy, low-cut bodice in an eye-catching emerald hue. A tousled 'do and drop earrings completed the effortless look. (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)

WORST: Whoa! Kate Winslet looked like she was dipped in oil in this slick black gown -- but paired with her messy 'do, the look flopped. (Photo by Jason Merritt/Getty Images)

BEST: Lady Gaga didn't disappoint in a breathtaking all-white, ultra-glamorous look. The singer and Oscar nominee stole the show in a strapless white gown layered over a pair of white, wide-legged pants -- a look designed by her longtime stylist Brandon Maxwell. WORST: Between the wild print, collar and cape, Manta Ray's gold dress had a little too much going on. (ANGELA WEISS/AFP/Getty Images)

BEST: Talk about a bombshell babe! Margot Robbie totally stunned in a flawless gold sequined gown with a plunging neckline. A vintage-looking black clutch with a dramatic fringe closure completed her classic, glam look. (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)

WORST: We're not sure what Amy Poehler was aiming for when she slipped on this black gown with colorful, floral embroidery.  (Photo by Todd Williamson/Getty Images)

BEST: Leave it to Rachel McAdams to totally steal the spotlight at the Oscars in a sea of A-listers. The gorgeous actress was a total knockout in an emerald halter dress with a dramatic train and sexy slit.  (Photo by Todd Williamson/Getty Images)

WORST: This isn't the worst look we've seen, but since Julianne Moore usually nails it on the red carpet, we were disappointed by her Oscars look. The gown wasn't as polished as her usual picks -- and her massive, circular earrings clashed with the geometric straps.  (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)
BEST: Actress Daisy Ridley looked totally classic in a gorgeous silver, ankle-length dress. A sheer hemline and subtle peplum added interesting focal points to otherwise completely beaded frock. Dainty slippers, diamond accessories complemented the look perfectly, while a red lip added a glamorous pop of color.  (Photo by Jason Merritt/Getty Images)
WORST: Sofia Vergara looked great, but we still don't love her pageant-esque gown with sparkles and ruffles galore.  (Photo by Todd Williamson/Getty Images)

BEST: Cate Blanchett turned heads in a mint gown dotted with floral appliqués that has us seriously pining for spring. A pretty 'do and natural makeup completed her fresh look.  (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)

WORST: "Game of Thrones" actress Sophie Turner channeled old Hollywood glamor in a sexy satin gown, diamonds and soft curls. While Turner looks great in the gown, it feels flimsy and unsubstantial for the high-profile event. Plus, the color washes her out.  (Photo by Todd Williamson/Getty Images)
BEST: Wow! Rooney Mara was a total stunner in a slinky lace gown that looked perfect on her svelte figure. A smoky eye and dark lips, paired with a sharp, slicked-back updo added drama to the striking look.   (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)

It may be Hollywood's biggest night -- but the Oscars are huge for fashion, too.

Awards season 2016 culminated in the A-list 88th Academy Awards on Sunday, as celebs geared up to flaunt their most glamorous looks on the red carpet. Some stars, like Alicia Vikander and Charlize Theron, clearly saved their best for last, while others, like Brie Larson and Kerry Washington, disappointed in less-than-dazzling looks.
