EXCLUSIVE: Sam Smith talking about weight loss is incredibly refreshing: 'I love food so much!'

Sam Smith is looking better than ever!

When ET chatted with the 23-year-old singer on the on red carpet of the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards on Monday, the slimmed-down star was refreshingly open about the continuous struggles that come with weight loss.

"It's very very difficult," he confessed with regard to maintaining his fit physique. "I love food so much so it's a constant battle. It's always going to be a battle but I'm trying my best."

Smith has always been outspoken about the struggles of his weight loss journey, even admitting that hearing someone call him "fat" hurt more than anti-gay slurs.

"If someone called me fat, that affects me way more than someone calling me a f----t," he admitted to Australia's 60 Minutes last April. "I think just because I've accepted that, if someone calls me a f----t, it's like, I am gay and I'm proud to be gay so there's no issues there. If someone calls you fat, that's something I want to change."

Smith, who won four GRAMMYs in 2015, including Best New Artist, revealed that he was excited to pass along the coveted award to a new musical newcomer. "Tonight I'm presenting Best New Artist and it's going to be really nice for me to give that away to someone," he shared. "I can't wait because I love everyone here."

The big-voiced Brit also admitted that he was looking forward to Lady Gaga's tribute to David Bowie. "I was just enamored constantly by him, and his work, and his constantly changing and how fresh he was," Smith said of the late icon. "It's going to be emotional tonight to see that."
