BCBGMaxazria plays it cool in color and design

BY MOLLY WINDING

Max and Lubov Azria's Autumn/Winter 2016 collection could not have been more fitting for the blustery New York morning of their runway show. Style mavens, editors, photographers and a handful of celebrities shuffled into The Arc, shoulder to shoulder, bundled in big fur coats and oversized scarves, shuddering from the harsh Manhattan wind.

When the lights went down and the music began, onlookers were pleased to be greeted by models strutting down the runway who were also in fur coats, leather jackets, long sleeves and full maxi skirts.

The collection was comprised almost exclusively of light and dark earth tones, save for the occasional light blue or merlot accent. Lines were angular and asymmetrical, cuts were flowing and boxy. What struck us about this collection was its wearability, compared to the design house's collections from seasons past (i.e. the bold, boxy patchwork styles we saw at BCBG's Spring/Summer 2016 runway show).

Not only were this season's colors subtle enough to be interesting without being overpowering, but the pieces themselves were truly items one might like to have in her closet, which isn't always the case when it comes to high fashion. BCBG's pieces were still unique, of course, but not so unique that you would need a real occasion to wear them. We're talking quilted leather jackets, shearling coats and ripped leggings.
