OnlyOnAOL: Mic drop for John Legend, as he heads to off-Broadway
By DONNA FREYDKIN
John Legend and Neal Brennan are headed to off-Broadway.
The Grammy-winning singer (and dad-to-be, with model wife Chrissy Teigen) and the co-creator of the beloved "Chappelle's Show" are producing "3 Mics," officially opening March 3 and starring Brennan in a one-man show. Previews start Feb. 23. This marks Brennan's off-Broadway debut.
This means that Brennan, a standup comedian, will alternate between three microphones -- riffing on race, depression and relationships. Expect brutal honesty, and killer comedy. In other Legend news, he's co-starring in Damien Chazelle's "La La Land," the follow-up from the guy who gave us "Whiplash." And we're preparing for major baby cuteness when he and Teigen welcome their first baby, a daughter.
Plus, on Feb. 5, Legend is slated to receive the NAACP President's Award at the 47th NAACP Image Awards, airing live. Previous honorees include Kerry Washington, and Spike Lee. Well done, sir.
