School mourns 7th-grader who died during basketball practice

ELK GROVE-- Instead of the usual daily announcements over the loudspeaker at Toby Johnson Middle School in Elk Grove, Principal Patrick McDougall told students one of their classmates had died.
Students mourned at a makeshift memorial for 12-year-old Aaron Nguyen.
Aaron died suddenly Friday evening after collapsing at basketball practice. School officials say he had a leg cramp but when the coaches ran to help him, he had stopped breathing.
Toby Johnson had more than a dozen grief counselors and psychologists on campus Monday morning, ready to help students get through a difficult time.
