Chris Martin 'Just Happy to Be Here' After Divorce

Chris Martin's ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow isn't the only one to subscribe to a strict food regimen.

The Coldplay frontman -- who is gearing up to perform at this year's Super Bowl half-time show -- revealed that he follows the 6:1 diet, in which you refrain from eating on the seventh day of the week and only drink water. "I fast once a week," Martin disclosed during an interview Radio.com affiliate Fresh 102.7.

Martin insists that not eating has its perks. "Creativity is one of the benefits of it. I started doing it because I was sick one time, and this guy said to me, 'Try not eating for a day, it will make your body feel healthier,'" he explained. "And actually I did it and I found I could sing a bit better, and also I felt so grateful for food ...and very grateful for everything in a way that I wasn't so much before. I think that the feeling of gratitude naturally brings out a joyous feeling, and when you are hungry you are very focused, so both sides of it help creativity."

However, the 38-year-old rocker admits that he isn't so healthy the day after his fast. "You're supposed to go for something like a kale salad," he said. "I tend to have Nutella and pancakes, which is terrible and completely defeats the point."

He also admitted that the 6:1 diet can be tough at times. "If you fast for a while, about 15 hours, then you can get a little antsy, so you've got to be careful who you're talking to at that point."

In July 2014, not long after his split from Paltrow, Martin revealed that he had gone back to eating meat. "I am not really vegetarian. I eat meat. I was vegetarian for a long time but, for various reasons, I changed," he admitted to BBC Radio 2's Steve Wright in the Afternoon. "My daughter [Apple] is vegetarian since she was born, so I keep getting tempted to go back. I don't eat very much meat."
