It's that time of year again!

Oscars nominations were announced early Thursday morning, and as always, it's an eclectic -- and exciting -- mix of Hollywood mainstays (hello, Eddie Redmayne!) and fresh newcomers (looking at you, Brie Larson).

This year, though, the Academy stuck to the obvious, like "The Revenant" and "Carol," for instance, leaving out the sleeper surprises that tend to delight film junkies.

"Mad Max: Fury Road's" whopping 10 nominations drew cheers from the crowd, while both "Inside Out" and "Carol" lost out on Best Picture nods. Alejandro G. Inarritu's "The Revenant" leads with 12 nominations.
