The rock icon only followed 172 people on the social network and following his death, fans noticed a parody account, @TheTweetofGod, was among them.

It is not known if Bowie, who had 783,000 followers at the time of his passing, controlled his own account.

After the tragic news of his death emerged, @TheTweetofGod tweeted:

On January 8, Bowie celebrated his 69th birthday and the release of his 25th album, Blackstar. Its producer said the record was a "parting gift" from Bowie to his fans. One song, "Lazarus," begins: "Look up here, I'm in Heaven!"
