Trash collectors call for police when they find body in clear trash bag
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) -- Trash collectors found human remains in the garbage Friday morning at 49th and Brooklyn.
Sources in the police department say whoever left the victim in a trash bag didn't put much effort into covering it up. The body was easily visible in a clear plastic bag.
Police arrived at the area at about 8:30 a.m., after a 911 call. City Waste collectors were picking up trash in an area known for illegal dumping when the bag was found. Workers told police they could see a hand and also legs bound together.
"They were working in this area to collect trash. Unfortunately this is a common area for people to illegally dump trash and these workers were just out here cleaning up when they discovered the body," said Sgt. Kari Thompson, Kansas City Police Dept.
The medical examiner removed the body and will work to determine how long the remains have been there and who the person is.
"Investigators are working to find out who did this, who this is, why this had to happen and why this person was just so carelessly left in this area," Thompson said.
