Prior to joining the hit Fox show Smollett was a relative unknown, but a star has been born with Smollett playing the smooth-talking, sweet and insanely talented singer Jamal Lyon. The star, who came out as gay this year, is definitely going to be a massive icon -- and dare we say, might even pass up Terrence Howard someday.

Also, it doesn't hurt that she's dating Michael Fassbender, an equally talented actor.

Wagner Moura's rise to fame as drug kingpin Pablo Escobar in Netflix's "Narcos," is almost as impressive as his alter-ego's drug ring. The Brazilian-born actor learned Spanish in a pinch in order to play the horrifying, real-life villain and his performance, with piercing stares and menacing moments make him one of the best characters on TV right now.

Dakota Johnson turned heads in 2015 as the sweet and innocent girl-turned-sex maven Anastasia Steele in "Fifty Shades of Grey" this year -- and permanently cemented her status as a breakout star. The daughter of actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson certainly has star power and with two more "Fifty" films coming out in 2017 and 2018, she'll definitely be around for a very long time.
