More Than 9 Hours of Sleep Could Send You to an Early Grave

Sleeping too much may be just as dangerous to your health as smoking and drinking in some ways.

New research from the University of Sydney shows that sleeping more than nine hours could put you at risk for premature death. Now, that's not the whole story.

People who are generally inactive and spend most of their days sleeping and sitting are four times as likely to die young.

The study found several troubling combinations, such as too much sleep and a sedentary lifestyle and too little sleep with alcohol and smoking.

The biggest takeaway is that it's important to get between 7-9 hours of sleep per night, stay away from too much alcohol intake and smoking, and try to keep moving throughout the day.

One of the researchers, Dr. Melody Ding, told The Daily Mail, "When you add lack of exercise into the mix, you get a type of "triple whammy effect."

So try not to sleep your days away, make sure you get up and move around while you're at work, and use exercise as a sure-fired way to stave off the effects of an otherwise sedentary lifestyle.
