Investigators saidEuric Cain, 21, jumped into the backseat of the man and woman's car around 3 a.m. on November 21, took their belongings and forced them at gunpoint to drive to a nearby abandoned area.

There he allegedly sexually assaulted both of them, ordered them out of the car and drove away, NOPD said.

Cain was arrested two days later for the attempted murder of Peter Gold, 25, a Good Samaritan who was shot in the stomach when he tried stopping Cain from allegedly kidnapping a woman, cops said.

Authorities allege Cain shot Gold and would have shot him in the head if his gun didn't jam.

Gold was driving down Saint Mary Street about 4 a.m. on November 20 when he saw a man, identified by police as Cain, dragging a woman into his nearby parked SUV.

When he intervened, Cain pointed a gun at Gold and allegedly demanded money.

When Gold said he didn't have any money, Cain shot him in the stomach and tried to shoot him in the head, but the gun wouldn't go off, according to police.

Cain took the woman's purse and left in the SUV. Both Gold and the woman were taken to a hospital, where the woman was treated for minor injuries and Gold was treated for serious injuries.

The next day, Cain allegedly carjacked the couple at Saint Philip and Henriette Delille Streets about 3 a.m., approximately three miles away, police said.

He forced the man to perform oral sex on him and raped the woman, The New Orleans Times-Picayune wrote.

After the assault, he allegedly told them he would kill them if they told police, according to WVUE-TV.

Police discovered after they arrested Cain that he was allegedly in possession of the couple's stolen car.

Cain allegedly used the victims' credit card at a nearby store before using the couple's car, cops said.

Investigators say they also connected Cain to DNA evidence recovered from the scene of the sexual assault.

Authorities have raised Cain's bond to $7 million from its earlier $6 million total in light of the additional charges.

He is also considered a top suspect in a series of rapes and kidnappings reported in October and November, the Times-Picayune reported.

"He is, in our opinion, a very dangerous individual," NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said at a news conference Wednesday.

Cain was charged with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and second-degree kidnapping in the first incident. He was charged with first-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping, armed robbery and carjacking in the second incident.

It was not immediately clear if Cain had an attorney or if he entered a plea.
