2015 wrap-up: A year of style with Diane Kruger

Let's talk about Diane Kruger for a moment. Quite possibly one of the most underrated fashion icons of our time, the German actress knows no bounds when it comes to style, regardless of whether she's on the red carpet or simply out and about in New York City.

First of all, like many of us, celebrities often have "off-duty" looks, which are usually quite similar to our own: sweatpants, flip flops, oversized tees, you get the picture. True fashion-forward thinkers, however, rock less, err, spasmodic get-ups on their days off. And that's not to say that they never dress down, of course, but even their most casual outfits have an air of stylish sophistication mere mortals could never recreate so nonchalantly. Diane Kruger is one of these people.

In addition to the ease with which Kruger outfits herself off the red carpet, the looks we see from the out-of-the-box actress for more formal affairs are equally impressive, albeit unconventional. She's been criticized in the past for her more 'eccentric' fashion choices, but what naysayers fail to recognize is that Kruger clearly has an eye for the avant-garde, which, in the world of high fashion, is quite valued.

The term 'high fashion' may, in fact, be what separates Diane Kruger from the celebrity masses when it comes to style. Sure, other A-listers like Kim Kardashian West opt to sport high fashion ensembles from design houses like Givenchy and Balmain, but it's no secret that the reality star plays the fashion game relatively safe (although it should be noted that Kardashian West does have her adventurous moments). Kruger, on the other hand, chooses high fashion pieces that may be considered less aesthetically pleasing on the red carpet -- i.e. shapeless frocks and ruffled gowns -- but Kruger has never been one to play by the rules. She keeps things classy and interesting, unlike many other stars who make appearances in low-risk, plainer styles, or worse yet, too-tight, skin-baring ensembles harking back to the '90s and seem to have made a comeback in recent years.

No, Diane Kruger is not one to get caught up in the trends of late or what's going to get her the most attention from the tabloids. She instead stays true to her own individual look, which is commendable in Hollywood, and the very reason why we've chosen her as one of our favorites in fashion from 2015.
