National Cookie Day was this Friday, and like any major occasion, Instagram users took to their favorite social media platform to show off their favorite mouth-watering snaps.

The holiday hopes to celebrate the history of the much-beloved dessert. Cookies were first introduced in America back in the 17th century and the most popular flavors then were gingerbread cookies and assorted macaroons. National Cookie Day was started on December 4th 1987 by Blue Chip Cookie Company as an incredible excuse indulge in those gooey, delicious treats all day long.

In honor of the big day, we've rounded up some of the best photos from around the country. Everything from new recipes to holiday-inspired designs, and even pet-friendly iterations can be found.

Don't feel bad if you missed out on the festivities yesterday. The day may only come once a year, but trust us, there is never a wrong time to indulge in some delicious cookies.
