The next Star Trek installment from Paramount Pictures is headed to Imax screens worldwide.

Star Trek Beyond, directed by Justin Lin, will debut in Imax theaters globally on July 22, 2016, day-and-date with the wide release. "Star Trek is an iconic franchise and Imax is delighted to once again be a part of its world and to partner for the third time with Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Bad Robot on Star Trek Beyond," said Greg Foster, senior executive vp Imax Corp. and CEO of Imax Entertainment in a statement Tuesday.

Paramount earlier shifted the release date for the film from July 8 to July 22, in part for a better chance to get Star Trek Beyond into Imax theaters. Imax also has the live action 3D Tarzanproject from Warner Bros. bowing on July 1, 2016, as another possible addition to its 2016 slate.

From Paramount, Bad Robot Productions and Skydance, the third film in the rebooted Star Trek series reunites John Cho, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin, while Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella and Lydia Wilson join the cast.

The franchise has earned more than $850 million since the release of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek in 2009. Star Trek Beyond is produced by Abrams and Roberto Orci, and Lin through his Perfect Storm Entertainment.

The executive producers are Jeffrey Chernov, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Lindsey Weber.
