On Sunday, a game worn Michael Jordan jersey sold for $173,240, setting a record price paid for any Jordan memorabilia. The jersey was worn by Jordan in his last regular season game as a member of the Chicago Bulls.

Don't get this jersey confused with the last time he ever wore a Bulls jersey. He led the Bulls to his final championship in the ensuing playoff run after his final regular season game as a Bull. The jersey that Jordan wore during Game 6 of the 1998 NBA finals, in which he hit the game winning shot, is going to sell for a lot more than $173K. That jersey was the last time he wore a Chicago Bulls uniform.

Jordan memorabilia is one of the most expensive sports collector items on the market because of the mystique and legacy Jordan's items carry with them. He has only been out of the league for 12 years, yet his merchandise and memorabilia are always selling for record amounts.

The power of the Jordan legacy nearly two decades after he last wore a Bulls uniform played a huge part in the selling of this jersey.
