SWAT Teams Surround Home After Man Opens Fire With High-Powered Rifle


SAN DIEGO (KSWB) -- SWAT teams were sent to an apartment complex in the Bankers Hill neighborhood Wednesday, where a domestic violence suspect armed with a high-power rifle was believed to be holed up.

Officers were initially sent to the building on Brant Street near Kalmia Street after a domestic violence incident was reported around 9:15 a.m., according to San Diego police. Emergency radio reports indicated the suspect may have fired a gun at a police dog.

Residents in the vicinity of 2445 Brant Street were advised to shelter in place and stay away from windows. Police have blocked of several streets including Curlew, Brant, Albatross and Front streets between Laurel and West Ivey streets.

Multiple gunshots were heard around 10:10 a.m., according to FOX 5 reporter Sharon Chen. Police have confirmed the suspect has fired his weapon several times in random directions.

At San Diego International Airport, no arriving flights are being allowed to land at this time. Departing flights, however, are being allowed to take off, according to airport officials.

A woman who was inside the apartment complex with the shooter has run out of the building and is with police, according to investigators.
