It was almost lights out for the popular "Halloween House" in Riverside on Friday after a thief crept onto the property overnight and stole lighting specially designed for the extravagant holiday display.

Home security cameras captured the thief at work, disconnecting and grabbing expensive floodlights used in a Halloween light and music show at a home on Deercreek Drive in Riverside.

But, after a wave of reaction on social media about the theft, the alleged perpetrator appeared to have a change of heart and turned the stolen items over to someone at a local park.

"An umpire who works over at the park came over, had a backpack and the backpack was filled with the floodlights that were stolen out of our yard last night," homeowner Melanie Betty said.

Betty told KTLA that the thief even posted a note on Facebook apologizing, saying it was a stupid move, a stupid stunt by him and his friends.

The display is the creation of Kevin and Amber Judd of Creative Lighting Displays. It marks the seventh year they've put together such a show and the second year in a row at its current location in the 8300 block of Deercreek Drive.

This year's version features the theme song from "Ghostbusters."

The display itself is comprised of four singing pumpkins, two Matrix boards, strobe and flood lights, tombstones and hand-carved pumpkins, according to a description posted along with video of the display to YouTube.
