YouTube star Sierra Furtado dishes on 'Girls Night In' tour and sensational Sierranators

Updated

In recent years, YouTube has become perhaps the top social media platform for users to share their unique talents and interests. In light of this prime social time, vloggers (video bloggers) and musicians alike are gaining millions of subscribers through the Internet. These social media stars are building larger fanbases than some of the hottest celebs in Hollywood. One such social star, beauty and lifestyle vlogger Sierra Furtado, has 1.6 million subscribers, known as "Sierranators," to her channel, SierraMarieMakeup. What's more, that number is rapidly growing.

A native Canadian, Sierra is a top YouTube personality when it comes to all things beauty and lifestyle. She was clearly born to entertain. The social star grew up dancing competitively as well as acting. As a small town Canadian girl, she never thought her dreams of stardom would be reached. When she discovered YouTube, she realized it was the perfect platform to put herself out there without the limitations of time and place. Sierra's story goes to show that with a little creativity and thinking outside the box, anyone can find a way to accomplish their goals and do what they love.

The vlogger recently put faces to usernames with a national tour. Together with fellow vloggers Eva Gutowski, Meredith Foster, Mia Stammer and Alisha Marie as well as sensational singer/songwriter Andie Case, Sierra traveled the country for Fullscreen Live's "Girls Night In." With a combined fanbase of more than 23 million, the six young women showcased their talents while proving that being yourself is so much better than aspiring to unrealistic ideals. The tour enabled the gang to come face-to-face with their beloved fans for a fun scripted show interspersed with games, sketches, contests, musical performances, DIY and more.

We were lucky enough to sit down with Sierra during the tour and chat about her exciting upcoming projects, how she came to love makeup and of course her sensational Sierranators.

How has the tour been for you so far? What made you decide to do it?

The tour has been really fun. It's great to just hang out with my friends all the time on the tour bus - I never thought I'd be doing that. I was actually a late comer to the tour. These guys were like my first YouTube friends, so it just made sense for me to join because a lot of us were friends already. I also just thought the idea behind the tour was an awesome message and I love what the show brings to people.

Talk to me about your Sierranators! What's your favorite thing about them?

Probably just how they're so similar to me and they just get me. They're always super supportive of anything I do they're honestly like my friends.

When did you first start experimenting with makeup? What is it about makeup that made you fall in love with it?

I first started wearing makeup in seventh grade. My mom brought makeup to me one day and laid it out all nicely on my bed it was so sweet. So I just wore mascara and foundation at first. Then, I started watching YouTube in high school and started to get good at it but still not great yet. It wasn't until after high school that I really got good at it. I don't think any of us knew what we were doing in high school.

What made you choose YouTube for your platform to share your awesome ideas?

I was always super creative and I wanted to entertain people and do something creative. I wasn't as passionate about school and I just wanted to do something different. I did a lot of competitive dancing and acting all through high school so I just really wanted to find something similar to that. I didn't think I could do it at the time because I was from a small town in Canada. So when I found YouTube, it was this whole new platform. It's so much easier now with the Internet to put yourself out there. It doesn't matter where you are in the world, you can do what you want and put it online. The goal is for it to turn into what we've all done here, so it's pretty cool to be where we are now.

Aside from the tour, do you have any big projects coming up for fans to look forward to?

Yes! In the spring I'm coming out with a line of prom dresses with Windsor. It's very exciting so look out for that!
