NASA Study Reveals Germs Are Thriving On The ISS

Despite orbiting 248 miles above Earth and all its germs in the vacuum of space, a new study revealed that the International Space Station is rife with infections dust particles.

As if living in space didn't come with enough potential problems.

Astronauts may have to follow a stricter cleaning regimen in order to clean up a microbial community that's thriving in their home so they avoid developing skin problems.

NASA is keeping an eye on its astronaut's health by monitoring the cleanliness of the space station. Samples revealed Actinobacteria -- a type of bacteria associated with human skin -- made up the majority of germs spotted.

Researchers have called for an urgent investigation into the microbes.

At least now we know living in space will come with a similar set of house chores.

An astronaut aboard the International Space Station took this photograph of small island cays in the Bahamas and the prominent tidal channels cutting between them. For astronauts, this is one of the most recognizable points on the planet.

The string of cays — stretching 14.24 kilometers (8.9 miles) in this image — extends west from Great Exuma Island (just outside the image to the right). Exuma is known for being remote from the bigger islands of The Bahamas, and it is rich with privately owned cays and with real pirate history (including Captain Kidd).
