Woman's hilarious rant on why 'leggings ain't pants' goes viral
It's been roughly five years since leggings hit the fall trend list as one of the biggest fashion staples of the season. In that time, the question of whether leggings constitute as pants or not has become ridiculously heated. People have some very strong opinions as to how one should sport the comfy trend.
One woman, Jamie Higdon-Randolph, has taken to Facebook to settle the dispute once and for all. The video was first posted last month and has since garnered more than 12 million views. In the video, Higdon-Randolph calmly explains exactly why leggings should never be worn as pants. Well, maybe her explanation isn't done quite so calmly. In fact, over the course of the video, she goes into somewhat of a hilarious, entertaining and repeat-worthy rant.
The woman begins the video by explaining the glory of leggings. They're comfortable, stylish and generally flattering. What's not to love? However, her tone becomes more intense as she quickly asserts that white leggings are unacceptable, leggings that are too tight should simply be deemed panty hose and, above all, leggings should never - under any circumstance - be worn as pants. In the video, Higdon-Randolph says:
"You can dress 'em up, you can dress 'em down, you can look like a frat girl, or you can look pretty classy in 'em — depending on what you choose to pair with them. This morning while tryin' on my leggings, I couldn't find my normal leggings, so I had to borrow Mackenzie's for a hot minute. And I'm like, 'Whoops! Mmm nmm. That ain't gonna work.' So I'm headed to the store right now to get me some other leggings. This is why I'm making this video. Some of you people like to use leggings as britches — as pants pants. That ain't how they're supposed to be worn. If you can't wear a shirt that covers your tail, so I can't tell that you got some Aztec-print thongs on, you don't need to be wearin' 'em."
Higdon-Randolph's comments received overwhelming approval from Facebook commenters. We'll be sure to sport shirts that cover our tails from now on just for you, Higdon-Randolph! Never change.
