Man strangled own mother then lived with her corpse in a motel for weeks: cops

An Upstate New York man is behind bars after police say he strangled his own mother then lived in a motel room with her body for several weeks.
Police say Charles Cole, 48, was living in a Pleasant Valley hotel with his mother, Betty Cole, and wife Ronalda, 40, before he fatally strangled her.
According to an investigation that began following an October 6 welfare check to the room concerning 76-year-old Betty Cole's safety, Mr. Cole and his wife lived with the body for some time before driving six states away to South Carolina to dispose of what was left of the remains.
"I find it hard to imagine circumstances that could lead to a son strangling his mother, but to also live with her body in a motel room for seven weeks and to then travel several states away to dump her body like trash, makes this a particularly disturbing and unusual case," state police Capt. John J. Ryan said in a release.
Betty Cole's body was found over 800 miles from Pleasant Valley in the town of Lodge, South Carolina on October 17, NBC New York reports.
Cole was located Friday at a homeless facility in Poughkeepsie and charged with 2nd Degree murder. He was arraigned in Town of Pleasant Valley Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
Ronalda Cole was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
