Take a look at this Elon Musk's building that could change the world

Updated

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is on a mission to change the world, including manufacturing. The visionary man began the construction of a gigantic 5.5 million square-foot Gigafactory with the goal to accelerate our transition to sustainable transportation. According to Tesla Motors website, in order to achieve such goal we need to produce electric vehicles with a much higher rate than the current one. The company plans to reach a production rate of 500,000 cars per year in this decade, but this would mean that Tesla alone may need the entire worldwide production of lithium batteries to put in their vehicles. The solution, according to Musk, is to create this Gigafactory that will supply enough batteries to speed up our transition to sustainable energy in a significant way.

The factory will use innovative manufacturing and economies of scale to lower the cost of batteries and reduce waste while combining all the production under one roof, just outside Sparks, Nevada. According to Business Insider, Tesla has already spent $4.5 million just to build the first part of the building's roof, which should be completed by February 2016. The white color is to keep the surface cool in order to optimize the efficiency of the solar panels. The foundation of the factory cost an estimated $16 million and Tesla spent $13 just on the steel and concrete for the mezzanine.
