Friends stage personal parade for ailing classic-car lover
HOWLAND, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman says fellow classic-car enthusiasts made her husband's dream come true by creating a personal parade and car show on his street after failing health kept him home.
The Vindicator newspaper (http://bit.ly/1RCsadU ) in Youngstown reports Dennis Hake sat in an electric scooter at the edge of his lawn, crying and smiling as dozens of cars rumbled by on Sunday afternoon.
The 60-year-old Howland man suffers from Parkinson's disease complicated by strokes and has required constant care for years. Family friend April Caruso said Hake wished only to see one more car show, so his friends and relatives brought the show to him.
By the time the parade ended, cars were parked in his yard, his neighbors' yards and even on nearby streets. And Hake couldn't stop smiling.
