Bridge Collapses In New Zealand

A group of French hikers on vacation in New Zealand were lucky to escape with their lives after a bridge they were walking across collapsed. Three of the four tourists fell 26 feet into the river below, while the fourth managed to cling to the broken bridge.

Thankfully all of the hikers survived with just minor scratches and bruises. One of them wrote in a blog post: "When we get halfway across we hear a muffled sound and before having time to do anything I was thrown into the emptiness, accepting the likelihood I would die."

A Labour party spokesperson told the New Zealand Herald: "This is good luck not good management. Our reputation cannot rely on luck. The cable failure is not only extremely concerning, it leaves New Zealand vulnerable to harmful tourism reaction. This must be sorted immediately."

This comes just days after a glass-bottom bridge suspended more than 3,500 feet in the air cracked while tourists were walking on it.
