Trump Steps Up Attack Game on Rubio

Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump, ever the showman, has taken his ongoing feud with Marco Rubio to an odder level by sending his rival a case of water with The Donald's image on each bottle. Included with the unusual gift were towels with a note: "Since you're always sweating, we thought you could use some water. Enjoy!"

The former host of The Apprentice and the U.S. senator from Florida have been going back and forth for weeks, and the case of 24 bottles of "Trump Ice Natural Spring Water," reported first by CNN, is perhaps the most good-natured of the barbs traded between the two.

The gift box also included a couple of Trump-for-president "Make America Great Again" bumper stickers, and the same slogan was on the towels, according to CNN.

The choice of drinking water as a gift for Rubio presumably is a reference to his speech in 2013 in response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address, where Rubio paused for a sip of water, an action that apparently thrilled the mainstream press (see video below). CBS News called it "water bottle-gate" and the New York Daily News called it one of the five worst State of the Union responses in history, for example.

In their ongoing feud, Trump has called Rubio "lightweight" and said his middle name should be "amnesty," a reference to his allegedly soft view of illegal immigration. On MSNBC, he said of Rubio: "He sweats more than any young person I've ever seen in my life.... I've never seen a guy down water like he downs water. They bring it in in buckets for this guy."

Rubio, meanwhile, has called Trump a "touchy and insecure guy," "thin-skinned" and "sensitive."

Neither Rubio nor Trump responded to a request for comment.
