In advance of Lousiana-Monroe's football game versus Georgia Southern on Saturday, the program announced that walk-on quarterback Daniel Fitzwater had died at the age of 20. The cause of death is unknown.

Fitzwater transferred to the team before this season, but injured his knee during training camp and was deemed out for the year. He previously played two seasons at junior college.

"The coaching staff and team are deeply saddened by the loss of a great person in Daniel. Our thoughts and prayers are with Daniel's family," ULM head coach Todd Berry said, according to a press release.

"The ULM family is saddened to learn of Daniel's death. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time," school president Dr. Nick J. Bruno said.

Fitzwater was reportedly in attendance at his brother's high school football game on Friday. He was honored on the video board before Saturday's game, which Georgia Southern won 51-31.
