It's official -- the longest running music series in American television history has finally kicked off. That's right people, we're talking Austin City Limits! The annual music festival held in Zikler park on two consecutive three-day weekends is known to be one of the most exciting and successful music festivals in the world.

While many of us have been mentally preparing for all the great performances ACL has to offer, we often forget one of the most amazing aspects of the festival -- the fact that it's in Austin, Texas, baby! Known as "the live music capital of the world" (and for good reason), Austin is home to gorgeous lakes and parks, as well as a variety of adventure-filled activities like hiking, biking, swimming and boating.

So, whether you're an Austin local or you're in for a short ACL Fest visit -- we've got three awesome places you've got to check off your bucket list, if you haven't already.

1) Congress Avenue Bridge

Otherwise known as the Ann W. Richards Bridge, this overpass is quite a sight to see as it crosses over the always peaceful, Lady Bird Lake. Any and all first-time visitors are encouraged to visit the bridge at sunset to watch as the Congress Avenue bats take flight from under the bridge into the Texas night sky. Afterwards, a stroll down Sixth Street will be accompanied by the melange of music -- from country and hard rock to rap and reggae.

2) Zilker Park

If you want to enjoy a typically sunny day in Austin, your time is best spent in Zilker Park -- an area in the heart of south Austin with over 350 acres of publicly owned land. The area, surrounding Barton Springs, is filled with a variety of attractions to always keep you entertained. From the Austin Nature and Science Center and Zilker Botanical Garden, to the fall jazz festivals and rugby tournaments -- you'll certainly never find yourself out of fun ideas.

3) Barton Springs Pool

This fabulous spring-fed pool maintains a perfect temp of 68ºF all year round! The pool itself measures three acres in size and continuously draws in people from all walks of life. Although it's closed to the public from 9am to 7pm every Thursday for cleaning, there's nothing quite like cooling off alongside the locals in this Austin crown jewel.
