Woman's death in fatal buttocks injection ruled a homicide
NEW YORK (AP) -- The death of a woman who had silicone injected into her buttocks in New York City has been ruled a homicide.
A spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office says Kelly Mayhew died after the silicone entered her bloodstream.
Police said the Suitland, Maryland, woman was found unresponsive at a Queens apartment on May 30. Her mother performed CPR and called 911, but Mayhew didn't survive.
Authorities are still looking for the woman suspected of giving Mayhew the injections.
More than a dozen people in the United States have died from illicit injections. A Philadelphia woman was convicted in March of third-degree murder in the 2011 death of a dancer from London who died after low-grade silicone traveled to her lungs.
